Presbyterians Today Article, September, 2005

Our Sunday worship services, which begin at 10:30 AM are interpreted for the deaf.

Pastor Meester teaches a deaf adult Sunday School class, 9:15 AM, also in ASL.

Heritage Church also hosts meetings of various deaf groups such as the Southeast Nebraska Coalition of the Deaf, the Friends and Families of Deaf Children, the Lincoln Association of the Deaf, as well as other groups. If your group of deaf people needs a place to meet, please call the church for information.

Our deaf ministry is made possible by a grant from Homestead Presbytery.

Frances Beaurivage has been a professional interpreter for more than 20 years, but has been interpreting for most of her life, as her parents are both deaf. Her full time employment is with Boys Town National Hospital, in the EIPA Diagnostic Assessment program. She is also the interpreter for Heritage Presbyterian Church. In addition to her work with Boys Town and Heritage, she does other types of community interpreting and training workshops for interpreters.

She has her RID National Certification, CI/CT.

Raymond Meester, Pastor, is a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA). He also has four deaf uncles and aunts. While attending seminary in New Jersey he worked at the state school for the deaf and was awarded an "Honorary Membership" in the Junior National Association of the Deaf. Rev. Meester is conversant in sign language. He is a former member of the board of the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
